🏗️ 9. The Truth About the "Leak-Free" Hydraulic System

🗣️ The Myth: "The deck equipment works. The cranes and ramps lift well empty, and there are no external oil leaks. The hydraulics are flawless."

⚙️ The Technical Reality:

A hydraulic system that is dry on the outside can be completely destroyed on the inside. Hydraulics rely on extreme internal pressure. Over time, seals in cylinders and valve blocks break down due to microscopic metal particulates and oxidized oil.

⚠️ The Hidden Risks:

Internal leakage (by-pass) cannot be seen externally at all. It manifests suddenly as a total and uncontrollable pressure drop at the exact moment the equipment is pushed to its maximum commercial weight. This leads to dropped cargo, destroyed equipment, and direct peril to the deck crew.

🔬 The Evidence Method (NDT & Analysis):

Dynamic pressure testing under heavy load, oil spectrometry analysis, and thermography of valve blocks (internal leakage creates acute friction heat).

⚖️ The Chairman's Verdict:

I never assess capacity based on empty operation at the dock. We test the system's absolute outer limits using proven engineering to ensure safe operational duty.
